Google to Set Up Shop in Revamped Shopping Mall in Los Angeles

Learn about Google’s new West LA office space.

Recently, Google signed a 14-year lease with Hudson Pacific Properties and Macerich to take over their redevelopment of the Westside Pavilion shopping center.  According to Hudson Pacific Properties Chairman and CEO, Victor Coleman, Google’s new West LA office space “demonstrates the strength of the Los Angeles tech and media industries, and exemplifies the type of creative office space that is in demand from large tech and media tenants.”

Google’s lease is a welcome deal for Macerich, the owner of the Westside Pavilion who considered selling the center in 2017.  Rather than selling, Macerich entered a joint venture with Hudson Pacific to repurpose the mall into a creative office, that they dubbed One Westside.

The redevelopment of One Westside is scheduled to begin later this year and expected to be completed in 2022.  Google’s lease will begin upon the completion of the redesign.  Plans for One Westside include high ceilings, a multi-level atrium, and a skylight.  150,000 sq-ft of the project will be dedicated to a flexible open layout, and 45,000 sq-ft will be dedicated to outdoor terraces and patios.  The finished office space will also feature rooftop amenities such as a garden and bridge access to a movie theater, restaurants, and shops.
