Does CBD Use Show Up in Drug Tests?

What to know about CBD and drug testing.

Many companies require their employees to complete a drug test before getting hired, or as a requirement to keep their positions.  If you are scheduled for a drug test, then you might be worried that your use of CBD products will get you in trouble.  However, before you panic, here’s what you need to know about CBD and drug testing.

  • Does CBD Show on Drug Tests?

Fortunately, CBD does not show up on drug tests because it is chemically different from THC, the chemical that most drug tests scan for.  While many hemp-based CBD products do contain trace levels of THC, these concentrations are highly unlikely to show up on a drug test unless you are taking copious amounts of the product.

  • THC Versus THC Metabolite

Most drug tests do not search directly for THC but instead, look for THC metabolite (THC-COOH).  THC metabolite is the substance that is created when your body processes THC.  THC metabolite remains in the body much longer than pure THC, allowing a user to be identified by a drug test even if they haven’t used marijuana products in days or even weeks.  While many people claim that THC metabolite will leave your body after 30 days, this isn’t always the case.  The actual time it takes to leave your body will depend on factors such as exercise level, hydration levels, and so on.
